Israel a ‘very divided society’ as war drags on
The way Israelis view the war in Gaza really depends on who you speak to. Israel is an incredibly divided society. It has been for a very long time, but these fissures have come to the fore much more in recent weeks, particularly as the death toll in Gaza rises.
There is a significant amount of people who support Israel’s actions in Gaza, but they wish that the Israelis were mounting the operation slightly differently and avoiding civilian casualties.
There are other people who support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A key component of those supporters actually wants Israeli forces to go into Rafah and be even tougher.
But at the same time, Israel’s antigovernment protests are continuing. And there are louder voices when it comes to calling for a ceasefire, getting all the hostages home, and finding a much more permanent solution to the conflict.
Israel is very much a divided nation, but generally speaking, the prime minister is very unpopular.
